OUR SCHOOL.
Our School Model
We can welcome Learners with a variety of needs including SEMH, Cognition and Learning and Interaction and Communication needs.
The learner who steps through the doors at Pushforward Summer House School will begin a journey with us that results in achievement of a significant selection of meaningful qualifications and confidently prepares them for the next steps in their lives.
We will retain our approach and commitment to individualised learning. Conversational education is key to unpick progression barriers, as we focus heavily on developing well rounding young people, finding their spark, accepting people at their own starting point, and acknowledging success through personal and academic growth.
We want them to walk through their front door at the end of each day proud of who they, what they have done and with a great big smile on their face.
A subtly challenging, low demand approach to Education. The provision takes place for 30 hours a week over five days (6 hours a day) including morning and afternoon sessions along with the team preparing and cooking of their own lunch. All teaching will be done as a mix of classroom delivery and off-site educational visits with no expectation to be sitting still in a classroom all day.
We will offer high levels of support even in group sessions with a minimum of 4 staff to 6 young people. The staff are tasked with a specific role from subject teaching, pastoral support and learner engagement. This allows us to carefully manage progress of each learner, giving them the best possible opportunity to achieve against their own Individual Learning Plan.
Morning Sessions - Groups of 6 Learners
We will concentrate on gaps in education whilst practically applying skills in the real world. This allows learners to understand the relevance of the subjects they are being taught.
We have developed a humanities provision that takes its lead from the national curriculum but covers interest selected from research of KS4 learners in our AP, making it as relevant and useful as possible.
We are proud to have developed our own PSHE curriculum following our year long and continuing collaboration with inmates at Warren Hill prison. A unique approach with real life situations and advice from those with authentic, lived experience. This work will be enhanced by guest speakers and varied visits to embed themes including politics at the Houses of Parliament, local and national community projects, and multi-cultural exchanges with our contacts in London and Birmingham.
Afternoon Sessions
The afternoon sessions (Monday to Thursday) shift the focus to the development of skills through the 1-1 teaching of practical subjects. Learners are given the autonomy to pick subjects of interests to them, making each learners experience individual to them.
Meaningful, practical application of skills takes place in purpose-built sites mirroring business environments as closely as possible. The sessions are run by our staff team of current and former industry professionals, supported by our accreditation team to link the education in the most suitable way for that young person.
